Aircraft Interiors

Why a course in Aircraft Interiors?

Structural Certification is one of the key areas of aerospace engineering, and getting knowledge and experience in the sector can be difficult. However, with our courses below, you can learn the major techniques and methodology used by the aircraft interiors industry, knowledge that usually only comes from experience. You will learn the terminology, the essentials by doing practical calculations and then writing the certification reports. These keywords on your CV will help you to stand out above the rest and the portfolio you create, you can show to the employer.

CSAMs

CSAMs is an easy to use composite design package, great for beginner, graduate or practicing engineers and fabricators. Start your initial composite designs today with CSAMs.

INTRODUCTION TO AIRCRAFT INTERIORS - Stowage Unit Interface Loads

Introduction

Stress certification engineers must produce stress analytical reports that validate the structural safety of aircraft interior (composite) structures such as stowage units.  The stowage unit interface load report and the stress analysis report are two important certification documents, essential in supporting the structural integrity and safety of aircraft interior composite structures.

By the end of this intensive course the student will have produced the two certification documents that they can show to potential employers. They will be confident of the certification document procedure and fluent in discussing any aspect of their work.

Key Details

Course Duration:   Two Weeks (75 hours)
Course Host:   Dr. Warren Leigh PhD
Course Cost:   £1995

Course ID:   A1

Course Outline

This is a complete course (that cannot be done in less time) that packages the derivation of the interface loads and the stress analysis for a stowage unit (requires the student to have done the interface load derivation course first). The student will obtain hands on experience of constructing a composite finite element analysis model (FEA) of the stowage unit and will perform Nastran structural analysis to obtain the interface loads and write the interface certification report. They will then progress to make the stress analysis and write the stress analysis certification report.

The following content will be covered:

  • Typical stowage unit structure
  • Materials, joints & fasteners
  • Stowage unit loading technique
  • Interface loads
  • Mass check procedure
  • Mass balance check
  • FEA stowage modelling in FEMAP & Patran (Nastran)
  • Quality control of modelling
  • The structure report

Introduction to Aircraft Interiors - Stowage Unit Stress Analysis

Introduction

Stress Certification Engineers must produce stress analytical reports that validate the structural safety of aircraft interior (composite) structures such as stowage units. The Aircraft interiors industry is valued at £20b worldwide by 2020. There are at least six major aircraft interior design and manufacturers, mainly located in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Japan and USA.

Key Details

Course Duration:   Two Weeks (75 hours)
Course Host:   Dr. Warren Leigh PhD
Course Cost:   £1995

Course ID:   A2

Course Outline

The student will obtain hands on experience of running the interface load Finite Element Model (FEA) in Nastran and acquire stress and deflection data. They will stress analyse in MathCad (or similar), the major composite and metallic parts using the loadcase data. It is important that the student first attends the Interface Loads Derivation course to fully appreciate this Stress Analysis course.

Finally, the student will write the contents of a typical Stowage Unit Stress Certification Report which will be reviewed and commented on by the course director. This course has been designed (by the course director) to ensure that the student will have an impressive amount of their own work to show potential employers that he can do the job. The student’s CV will echo all the major keywords (ideally this course follows the certification Interface Loads report).

The following content will be covered:

  • Typical Stowage Unit Structure
  • Materials, Joints & Fasteners
  • Stowage Unit Loading Technique
  • Interface Loads
  • Mass Check Procedure
